Poor little Left Eye had a run in with a mean old pit bull yesterday. My husband was just returning home from work and the dogs were standing at the screen door waiting for him. At just that time a man came buy walking his pit bull. Left Eye busted out through the screen door and went right for the dog. Unfortunately she was in WAY over her head. The pit bull picked her up by the neck and spun her around a couple of times off the ground. This is no small feet, Left Eye is almost 50 lbs. of stocky muscle.
Once Left Eye realized she was in trouble she took the first chance she could to get away and ran back to the house. Besides being totally shaken and a little embarassed she seemed fine. We couldn't find any blood or bites.
Last night about 10pm my husband found a large loose flap of skin with a deep punture wound. Off they went to the emergency vet. After many, many stitches plus a drain (poor thing), and a lovely plastic lampshade she has to wear for 10 days, she's back home. It's really sad to watch her, she's usually such a tough and independent little character.
oh, the poor thing. and of course you didn't discover the wound until emergency vet hours. don't know what it's like where you are, but up here, as a friend puts it, it costs $90 just to walk in the door. hope she's doing better.

She is doing much better, though a little out of it from the pain medicine. Thanks for thinking of her! You are absolutely right about not discovering the injuries until "emergency vet hours" This little foray into late night veterinary medicine set us back about $400. I hope she chooses her battles more carefully in the future!

I'm glad you don't automatically blame the other dog. Lots of dog owners blame the other dog if there is ever a confrontation. Some people do the same with their kids. I'm glad he's OK.

Oh, poor little satellite head! Coco had to wear one of those once, it was miserable.
Feel better soon, LE.

Left Eye's doing much better, she had the drain removed Monday and the stitches come out Friday. The whole incident was definitely LE's fault, hopefully she learned a lesson, and thankfully she wasn't injured even worse. If the pit bull had been off the leash it might have been a different story!
